Update: E-Bikes Returning this Spring, with New App

Electric Bikes will return later this spring.

Our riders love electric bikes and we’re excited to announce they’ll be rolling out in the next few months! While you’ve been patiently waiting for their return, our team has been working on new features and an improved app experience.

This spring, 1,500 new e-bikes will hit the ground with technology that allows them to lock to public bike racks in addition to docking at stations. Each rider will be charged a flat $1 e-bike fee per trip in addition to standard usage fees. If an e-bike is docked to a public bike rack, riders will also get charged a $1 out-of-station fee.

We’re also making some exciting changes to the Capital Bikeshare app. The new app update will include features that will allow riders to report service issues in real time, QR codes for a seamless bike pick-up, in-app membership management and customer service, and other exciting features!

Wait… there’s more!

We couldn’t forget about our members in the Community Partners Program! We’ve been working extremely hard to create e-bikes that are inclusive for everyone. Current equity members will receive a 1 year free membership extension and will not be charged usage fees for e-bikes, allowing riders to go farther, faster.

So, it doesn’t matter if you are meeting a friend, sightseeing or just commuting to work (especially during those scorching hot DC summers), e-bikes are the way to go! Are you excited for the return of e-bikes? We sure are!
