It’s time to celebrate female riders who make DC so great!
Only 38% of Capital Bikeshare riders currently identify as female. That’s why we’re highlighting local groups like Women & Bicycles and Black Women Bike during Women’s History Month - they share our mission to #CloseTheFenderGap!
Both of these groups are affiliated with the Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA) and offer a peer-to-peer experience that inspires women to bike, participate, teach, advocate, and lead in the bike movement. In addition to sponsoring these local groups, WABA advocates for gender equality in biking through a diverse range of programs including workshops, rides, social events and a mentorship program for women who cycle.
Last October, we teamed up with them to host a tour of DC’s famous female statues and were thrilled to learn about the impact women have had on this incredible city. Check out the full list of statues below for a DIY guided ride!
