Assign a program manager who will serve as the point-person for your organization. Contact your local jurisdiction to get started.
We'll provide you with a unique program code to distribute to your students, who will use it to receive their discount when joining Capital Bikeshare.
We’ll send you internal marketing materials to promote this new perk to your students. Each new University Program Member is also eligible for one complimentary on-site Everyday Biking Class, courtesy of your local jurisdiction (must have a minimum of 20 attendees to take place).

Do we have to pay for all of the students at our college or university?
No, only students pay for their memberships
Is there a minimum number of students?
No, schools of all sizes are welcome.
Is there a sign up-fee to become a Capital Bikeshare University Program Member?
No, there is no signup fee to join the Capital Bikeshare University Program, only the cost of the membership.
How do we verify a student's eligibility?
We require a school email address and/or a password to sign up for your school's discounted University Membership.
What happens when a student leaves the school?
Their membership will remain active until its expiration date. If they renew their membership the following year, they will have to select a standard Annual Membership.
What happens when students are already members?
We are not able to issue University Membership discounts retroactively, but if the student renews their membership, they will be eligible for the discounted university program rate.
Does bikeshare qualify as a pre-tax commuter benefit?
No. At this time, IRS tax code does not recognize bike share as eligible for commuter benefits. We hope that as bikeshare becomes more popular, this will change in the future.
Can we purchase one bike key to share among students and visitors?
No. Each Capital Bikeshare membership must belong to one individual. Per the Capital Bikeshare user agreement, keys cannot be shared.
Can we save money by purchasing daily or monthly memberships for our students instead?
University Membership Program discounts are only available for Annual Memberships, the most cost-effective membership type.
Can a representative from Capital Bikeshare present to our students?
Yes. A representative from your Capital Bikeshare jurisdiction can share educational materials and present to your students about how to use the system.
