The White House is the official residence and principal workplace of the President of the United States.
Located at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, the White House has been the residence of every U.S. president since John Adams. The house was designed by Irish architect James Hoban and has undergone numerous additions and renovations since its completion in 1800.
The best views of the Presidential residence are from Pennsylvania Avenue’s pedestrian promenade between 15th St and 17th St NW at Lafayette Square. It is easily accessible by several Capital Bikeshare stations and is a popular location for photographs, celebrations, demonstrations and other political activities.
